FAQ: Discount Summary Report
Answers to common questions about running and understanding the report.
Q: Can I compare discounts across two different time periods?
A: Yes. Run the report once for the first period, export it to Excel, then run the report again for the second period and export that as well. In Excel, you can place the two data sets side-by-side and create a comparison table or chart. Some users copy both data sets into a single spreadsheet for easier viewing.
Q: Why does the report show no results even though I know discounts were applied?
A: Check your filters. If you filtered by a specific contact or product line, the discounts may have been applied to other contacts or product lines. Also verify that the date range includes the documents you expect. If the documents are in "draft" status, they may not appear if your report filters for "applied" discounts only.
Q: Is the discount amount the full discount given, or is it already deducted from the line price?
A: The discount amount shown in the report is the actual discount applied. For example, if an invoice line was 100 and a 10% discount was applied, the discount shown is 10 (not the final price of 90). This represents the revenue or cost reduction caused by the discount.
Q: How does the report handle discounts in multiple currencies?
A: By default, the report shows all discounts in their original currencies. If you want to consolidate them into a single currency, use the "Currency" filter to select one currency. Note that the system converts amounts only for display; the underlying discounts remain in their original currency.
Q: Can I set up the report to run automatically on a schedule?
A: Not directly from the report interface. However, many users create a recurring calendar reminder to run the report manually each month or quarter. Some administrators may be able to schedule automated exports via system settings if your organization has that capability.
Q: Do discounts on returned or cancelled documents appear in the report?
A: Only discounts on active documents appear in the summary. If a document is cancelled or marked as returned, its discount is not included in the report totals.
Q: What's the difference between the Summary and Detail discount reports?
A: The Summary report shows totals and aggregated figures, making it easy to see big-picture trends. The Detail report lists every individual discount by document, allowing you to drill down and see exactly which invoices, receipts, bills, or purchases had discounts applied.
