Reading and interpreting the Discounts by User report
Understand the columns, totals, and what the numbers tell you about discount usage.
The Discounts by User report presents discount activity broken down by the user (team member) who granted each discount. Understanding the columns and totals helps you spot trends, evaluate policy compliance, and manage discount authority.
What the report shows
The report is organized as a table with one row per user. Each row displays:
- User name — the team member who granted the discounts.
- Number of Discounts — how many separate discount actions this user granted during the selected date range.
- Total Discount Amount — the sum of all discount values (in your local currency) that this user granted.
- Average Discount Amount — the total amount divided by the number of discounts, showing the typical size of discounts this user grants.
- Percentage of Total — what fraction of all discounts (across all users) this user is responsible for.
Why it matters
Discounts directly impact your profit margin on sales. By seeing who grants the most discounts and in what amounts, you can:
- Enforce policy: check whether users are respecting discount limits or approval workflows.
- Identify risks: spot a user who is granting unusually large or frequent discounts.
- Train and coach: talk to users who may not understand when discounts are appropriate.
- Spot data entry errors: an unusually high discount for one user might indicate a system mistake or a training gap.
How to read it
Look at the rows in order of highest to lowest Total Discount Amount. Ask yourself:
- Are the top discounters the ones authorized to grant discounts?
- Are the discount sizes reasonable for your business model?
- Is there a user with very few discounts but a very high average (possibly one large error)?
- Are discounts concentrated in a short window (possible seasonal promotion) or spread evenly?
This report does not validate whether discounts were correct — it only shows who granted them. Use the Filters and options article to refine by date, user, or document type for deeper investigation.
