Sorting, paging and searching in lists
Master the tools to organize and find records in any Usystems list view.
What This Does
Every list in Usystems—invoices, customers, products, accounts—has built-in tools to help you sort, filter, and navigate large sets of records. You can sort by date, name, or value; jump to specific pages; and search for keywords within the list.
Before You Start
- You must be logged into Usystems and have permission to view the list.
- You don't need to be on a specific page—these tools are the same across all lists.
Steps
Sorting
-
Open any list (e.g., Invoices → Open in Usystems, or Contacts → Customers → Open in Usystems).
-
Look at the column headers (Date, Name, Amount, etc.). Each one is clickable.
-
Click any column header to sort by that column. The order is:
- First click: ascending (A–Z, smallest to largest, oldest to newest)
- Second click: descending (Z–A, largest to smallest, newest to oldest)
- Third click: back to default order
-
A small arrow icon on the column header shows which column is currently sorted and in which direction.
Pagination (Moving Between Pages)
-
At the bottom of the list, you'll see how many records are shown (e.g., "Showing 1–25 of 500").
-
Page buttons appear next to it:
- Use < Previous or > Next to move one page at a time.
- Click a page number (1, 2, 3…) to jump directly to that page.
- Some lists let you change the page size (e.g., show 50 items instead of 25).
-
Jump to the last page by clicking the last page number, or use the page size selector to show more items per page so you scroll less.
Searching Within the List
-
Look for a search box at the top of the list (usually labeled "Search" or with a magnifying glass icon).
-
Type a keyword—a name, number, or word. The list updates instantly to show only matching records.
-
The search works on visible columns only. For more advanced filtering, see Using column filters.
-
To clear the search, delete the text or click the X button in the search box.
Tips & Common Mistakes
- Sorting doesn't stick when you leave? Sorting resets when you navigate away. If you use the same sort often, bookmark the list (use your browser's bookmark feature).
- Searching isn't finding records? The search is case-insensitive but only looks at text on the current page. If you've sorted or filtered and don't see what you expect, check that you're looking at the right page.
- Too many records? Use column filters (not just the basic search) to narrow down results. See Using column filters for details.
- Performance: If a list is very long (thousands of records), pagination and sorting may take a moment. Be patient or narrow your search with filters.
