Running the FX Gain/Loss report

Generate a report showing exchange rate gains and losses across all transactions.

Jul 11, 2026

The FX Gain/Loss report shows the unrealized and realized gains or losses from exchange rate movements across your transactions. This is essential for accurate financial reporting when you work in multiple currencies.

Before you start

  • You must have transactions in multiple currencies to generate meaningful data.
  • The report includes both realized gains/losses (from completed transactions) and unrealized gains/losses (from open balances at current rates).
  • Ensure your exchange rates are set correctly in the system.

Steps

  1. Go to Reports list. Open in Usystems

  2. Look for "FX Gain/Loss" in the available reports list or use the search function to find it.

  3. Click on the FX Gain/Loss report to open it.

  4. The report will automatically load with a default date range (typically the current month). You can modify the date range, currencies, and other filters as needed (see Filters and options for details).

  5. Review the data displayed. The report shows:

    • Each transaction or balance with an exchange rate difference
    • The original amount in the source currency
    • The gain or loss amount in your functional (base) currency
  6. If you wish to refine the results, adjust the filters and click the refresh button to regenerate the report.

Tips & common mistakes

  • Timing matters: Realized gains/losses apply only to completed transactions; unrealized ones apply to open balances and may change as exchange rates fluctuate.
  • Currency pairs: The report only includes pairs where an actual exchange rate difference exists between transaction and reporting dates.
  • Filtering by account: If you have many accounts, narrow down to specific receivable or payable accounts to focus on problem areas.
