Running the Revaluation Preview report

Generate a preview of unrealized foreign exchange gains and losses before posting them to your accounts.

Jul 11, 2026

The Revaluation Preview report shows you unrealized foreign exchange gains and losses on multi-currency accounts before they are posted to your general ledger. Use this report to review the financial impact of currency movements and confirm which accounts will be affected before you commit the revaluation.

Before you start

  • You must have multi-currency accounts set up in your chart of accounts.
  • You need permission to view reports.
  • Have your desired revaluation date (usually today's date) ready. The report will use the most recent exchange rates available for that date.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Reports → Revaluation Preview Open in Usystems.

  2. In the filters panel on the left, select your desired Revaluation date using the date picker. This is the date as of which the report will calculate unrealized gains and losses.

  3. (Optional) If you want to limit the report to specific accounts, select them from the Accounts filter. Leave blank to include all multi-currency accounts.

  4. (Optional) If you want to see results grouped by currency, select the Group by currency option.

  5. Click Run report or Refresh. The system will calculate the unrealized gains/losses using the exchange rates for your chosen date.

  6. The preview table will appear below showing each account, currency, balance, revaluation amount, and the projected gain or loss.

Accounting impact

When you post a revaluation (a separate action not covered in this article), the system will create journal entries that:

  • Debit or credit a revaluation gain/loss account (typically in equity or expenses, depending on your chart).
  • Adjust the carrying amount of each multi-currency asset or liability account to reflect the current exchange rate.

The Revaluation Preview report shows you exactly which accounts will move and by how much, so you can verify the impact before posting.

Tips & common mistakes

  • Revaluation date matters: Always use a date that matches your reporting period. Using today's date mid-month may show gains/losses that won't be final until month-end.
  • Exchange rates are locked on the date: The report uses the exchange rate recorded in Usystems for your chosen date. If you have not entered rates for that date, the report will use the most recent available rate.
  • Don't confuse preview and posting: This report is a preview. It does not change your accounts. You must take a separate action (usually in a settings or posting dialog) to actually post the revaluation if you decide to proceed.
  • Multi-currency only: Accounts that hold only one currency will not appear in this report, even if other accounts are being revalued.
