Screen lock and auto-lock

Understand how Usystems automatically locks your session when inactive.

Jul 11, 2026

Usystems can automatically lock your session after a period of inactivity to protect your account. When your screen is locked, you must re-enter your password to continue working. Your admin determines the auto-lock timeout settings.

What is screen lock?

Screen lock is a security feature that suspends your session when you've been inactive (not using your mouse or keyboard) for a set amount of time. When locked, Usystems displays a lock screen and requires you to sign back in.

How long until auto-lock?

The auto-lock timeout depends on your company's security policy. Common timeouts are:

  • 15 minutes of inactivity
  • 30 minutes of inactivity
  • 1 hour of inactivity
  • 2 hours of inactivity (or longer)

Ask your admin or manager what your company's timeout is set to.

What happens when your session locks

  1. A lock screen appears. You'll see a message indicating your session has been locked due to inactivity.
  2. You must re-enter your password. Type your password to unlock and return to your work.
  3. Your work is preserved. Any unsaved changes in a form or document remain as they were — you won't lose them.
  4. You continue working. After unlocking, you can continue where you left off.

How to unlock your screen

  1. Look at the lock screen. You'll see a prompt asking you to enter your password.
  2. Enter your password. Type your Usystems password in the field.
  3. Press Enter or click Unlock. Your session will resume.

Tips for avoiding auto-lock

  • Stay active. Move your mouse or use your keyboard regularly to prevent the timer from counting down.
  • Don't leave your desk unattended. If you step away, consider signing out manually to be extra safe.
  • Be aware of the timeout. If your company's auto-lock is set to 30 minutes, remember to interact with the system regularly if you're away from your desk.

What if you can't remember your password?

If you're locked out and can't unlock the screen, you have two options:

  1. Contact your admin — they may be able to unlock your session.
  2. Close and reopen Usystems — you'll be taken to the login page where you can use the "Forgot password?" link to reset your password.

Security note

Auto-lock is a security feature designed to protect your account if you step away from your desk. Always lock or sign out when leaving your computer, especially on a shared or public computer.
