FAQ: Sessions & Locking
Quick answers about session management and screen locks.
Q: What is a session?
A: A session is the period of time you are logged into Usystems. When you sign in, a session starts. When you sign out or are auto-locked due to inactivity, the session ends.
Q: Will closing my browser close my session?
A: Not immediately. If you close the browser without signing out, your session may remain active for a while (depending on auto-lock settings). For security, always use the Sign Out option instead of just closing the browser.
Q: How long can I stay logged in?
A: As long as you remain active. If you use your mouse or keyboard regularly, your session will continue. If you're inactive for a set period (your admin's auto-lock timeout), you'll be locked and must re-enter your password.
Q: Can I have multiple Usystems sessions open at once?
A: Yes, but you must log in separately in each browser window or tab. Each session is independent. However, there's no need to do this — you can switch between products in a single session without logging out.
Q: What happens if I stay logged in overnight?
A: You may be auto-locked if your company's auto-lock timeout is set to a few hours. When you return the next day, you'll see the lock screen and need to enter your password to continue.
Q: Is my screen locked or logged out?
A: These are different:
- Locked: You are still logged in, but your session is temporarily suspended. You unlock by entering your password. Your work is preserved.
- Logged out: Your session has ended. You must log in again from the login page. Unsaved work is lost.
Q: What if someone else uses my computer while I'm away?
A: If you're locked due to auto-lock, they cannot access your account without your password. If you forgot to sign out, they may be able to access Usystems using your session. Always sign out when you step away, especially on a shared computer.
Q: Can I turn off auto-lock?
A: Auto-lock is set by your admin for security reasons. You cannot turn it off yourself, but you can ask your admin to change the timeout to a longer period if needed.
Q: Will I lose my work if I'm auto-locked?
A: No. Any unsaved changes in a form or document will remain when you unlock. You can pick up where you left off. However, if your session ends due to timeout, unsaved changes may be lost.
