Duplicating and restoring templates
Save a copy of your current template or revert to the default version.
This guide explains how to create a backup copy of your customized template or revert to Usystems' original default template if you need to start fresh.
Before you start:
- You must have permission to manage print templates (admin or equivalent role).
- Know which template you want to duplicate or restore (e.g., "Invoice – Default").
- If you are restoring a template, any custom changes you made will be lost unless you have saved a duplicate first.
Duplicating a template (creating a backup):
-
Open the Templates page. Go to Settings → Print Templates Open in Usystems.
-
Find the template you want to copy. Locate it in the template list.
-
Look for the duplicate option. On the template row or detail page, find a menu, button, or action labeled Duplicate, Copy, or similar (exact label may vary by product version).
-
Confirm the duplicate. The system creates a new template with the same content. The new template typically has a name like "Invoice – Default Copy" or "Invoice – Default (1)" and appears in your template list.
-
Rename if desired. You may edit the new template's name to distinguish it clearly (e.g., "Invoice – Custom June 2026" or "Invoice – Backup Before Redesign").
-
Use the duplicate. You can now make changes to your original template knowing you have a backup. If things go wrong, you still have the copy.
Restoring a template to the default version:
-
Open the Templates page. Go to Settings → Print Templates Open in Usystems.
-
Select the template you want to restore. Click on the template to open it.
-
Look for a restore or reset option. On the template detail page, find a button or menu item labeled Restore to Default, Reset to Original, or Revert Template.
-
Confirm the restoration. A confirmation dialog may appear warning that this action cannot be undone and all custom changes will be lost. Click Yes, Confirm, or similar to proceed.
-
Verify the result. The template code returns to the original Usystems version. You can now edit it again or use it as-is.
Tips & common mistakes:
- Always duplicate before major changes. If you plan to significantly redesign a template, create a duplicate first. This ensures you have a working fallback if your edits break something.
- Restore only when necessary. Restoring overwrites all your custom work. If you just need to undo a small change, consider using your browser's undo function (Ctrl+Z or Cmd+Z) instead.
- Name your duplicates clearly. Use descriptive names like "Invoice – 2026 English" or "Receipt – POS Thermal" so you can easily find the right template later.
- Test restored templates. After restoring a template, print a test document to confirm it works correctly before distributing the template to your team.
