Accountant: your first day

Get oriented: what an accountant does and the essential reports and reconciliations.

11 يوليو 2026

What is an accountant's role?

As an accountant, you are the guardian of your organization's financial health. Your main responsibilities are:

  • Record and verify transactions — make sure every sale, payment, and expense is accurate
  • Maintain the chart of accounts — organize accounts so each transaction goes to the right place
  • Generate reports — create reports that tell the company's financial story (profit, loss, balance sheet)
  • Reconcile accounts — check that the system matches bank statements and real-world records
  • Support audits — prepare documents so external auditors can verify the company's numbers

Accountants are essential to keeping the company trustworthy and compliant with financial rules.

Where are your main tools?

When you log into Usystems, look for these sections on the left-hand menu:

What happens on your first day

  1. Receive your login. Your manager will give you a username and password.
  2. Learn your chart of accounts. Ask to see the full list. Understand which accounts are used most often.
  3. Ask about the bank accounts. Which bank does the company use? How often are statements received?
  4. Learn the company's cycle. When does the company month-end close? When do reports go to the owner or auditor?
  5. Review recent transactions. Log in and look at 2–3 recent invoices or payments to see what the daily flow looks like.
  6. Ask about recurring tasks. Does someone do a weekly reconciliation? A monthly close? When?

Key numbers to know

  • Company's legal name (for reports and audits)
  • Tax ID or registration number
  • Bank account(s) and which accounting accounts they link to
  • Financial year (calendar year or fiscal year?)
  • Reporting currency (AFN, USD, or multi-currency)

Common daily tasks

As an accountant, you may do these tasks:

  • Check for unapproved or incomplete transactions
  • Verify that customer or vendor accounts are accurate
  • Prepare reconciliations (bank, credit card, accounts payable)
  • Create or review reports for management
  • Answer questions from the cashier or operations team
