Categories and classes
Organize your inventory catalog by assigning products to categories and classes.
Jul 11, 2026
Categories and classes let you group products in your inventory to make them easier to find, track, and organize. A category is a broad grouping (like "Medications" or "Equipment"), and a class is a finer subdivision within a category (like "Antibiotics" under Medications).
Before you start
- You must have admin or inventory manager permissions to create and edit categories and classes.
- Categories and classes are optional—you can sell products without them, but they improve organization and reporting.
- Once you assign a product to a class, that product reports under that class in inventory and accounting reports.
Steps
- Go to Products & Services → Products Open in Usystems.
- Look for a Categories or Classes section (or menu item) in the product settings area.
- Click Create category (or + New category) to add a top-level grouping.
- Enter a Category name (in both English and Dari if your business uses both languages).
- Click Save or Create.
- To add a class within a category, select the category and click Create class (or + New class).
- Enter the Class name and optionally a Description.
- Click Save or Create.
- When creating or editing a product, assign it to a class; the category is then inherited.
Tips & common mistakes
- Categories are read-only once products are assigned — plan your category structure before mass-assigning products.
- Rename classes sparingly — renaming does not retroactively update historical reports or documents that reference the old name.
- Use consistent naming — avoid "Medication" and "medications" as separate categories; pick a convention and stick to it.
- Classes are optional per product — you can leave a product unclassified if it does not fit your structure.
