FAQ: Clinical Concepts

Common questions about queues, medical cases, and clinical workflows.

Can a patient have more than one medical case?

Yes. A patient can have multiple cases over time—one for each visit, stay, or episode of care. For example, a patient might have one case from an outpatient clinic visit in January, another from an emergency room visit in March, and a third from an inpatient hospital stay in June. All cases remain linked to the patient, so their full history is available.

What happens to a queue token after the patient leaves?

Once a patient completes their service and leaves, their token is marked as completed. The queue automatically moves to the next patient. Old tokens remain in the system for record-keeping, but they are no longer active. Staff can review past tokens to track how many patients were seen each day.

Who can access a patient's medical case?

Access to a medical case depends on permissions and roles. Typically, doctors, nurses, and relevant clinical staff can view and edit cases. Administrative staff, pharmacists, and lab technicians may have more limited access depending on your facility's policy. Patients themselves may have read-only access to their own case (if your facility enables patient portals).

Can a medical case be deleted or edited after creation?

Medical cases are legal health records and should not be deleted. Most systems allow editing for corrections (e.g., fixing a typo or adding missing information), but major edits are logged for audit purposes. Contact your facility administrator or system support for policies on case corrections and amendments.

What is a "global" queue versus a department-specific queue?

A global queue allows patients to move through multiple departments with a single token. For example, a patient checks in once, then flows through a doctor's visit, lab, and pharmacy—all with the same token. A department-specific queue is limited to one service (e.g., only pharmacy), and patients need a separate token for each department. Choose the queue type based on your clinic's workflow.

How do I print or export a patient's medical case?

Many facilities offer print templates for medical cases so you can generate a paper copy for the patient or records. Use the print option on the medical case page. For exporting data, check with your system administrator—export capabilities depend on your version and security settings.

Can staff enter medical information from home or on mobile devices?

It depends on your facility's setup. Some facilities allow remote access with secure login; others restrict clinical data entry to on-site, on-network computers for security. Ask your IT administrator or system owner about mobile or remote access policies.

What if a patient's queue token is lost or damaged?

If a token (physical card, QR code, or barcode) is lost, ask the patient for their name or ID, and a staff member can quickly look them up in the system and create or reactivate a token. No data is lost—the queue system is based on the patient record, not the physical token.
