Printing doesn't work
Resolve issues with printing invoices, receipts, and other documents from Usystems.
Symptom
When you try to print a document (invoice, receipt, bill, purchase order, etc.) from Usystems, one of the following occurs:
- The print dialog does not open.
- The print preview shows a blank or incorrectly formatted page.
- The printer does not receive the print job, or the page comes out blank or unreadable.
- You see an error message when attempting to print.
Likely causes
Listed by probability:
-
Print template is missing or not configured for your product — The document type (e.g., invoices) may not have a print template assigned, or the template was deleted.
-
Browser print settings are misconfigured — JavaScript is disabled, or the browser's print dialog has incorrect page setup options.
-
Printer is offline or not responding — The printer is powered off, disconnected from the network, or has a connectivity issue.
-
PDF viewer or print preview cannot render the document — The document contains unsupported content, or your browser's PDF viewer is not working.
-
Print template has a syntax or design error — The template file contains broken formatting or missing data fields.
Fix for each cause
Fix 1: Verify a print template is assigned to your document
In Usystems, each document type must have an assigned print template in order to print.
-
Ask your Usystems administrator to check the print template settings for your product and document type (invoice, receipt, bill, etc.).
- Go to Settings → Print Templates Open in Usystems
- Ensure a template is listed and marked as active for your document type.
-
If no template is listed:
- Your administrator may need to create or import a default template for your product.
- Contact your Usystems support team if templates need to be restored or recreated.
-
If a template exists but printing still fails, proceed to Fix 2.
Fix 2: Check browser settings and enable JavaScript
Usystems print functionality requires JavaScript to be enabled in your browser.
On Chrome or Chromium browsers:
- Click the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- On the left sidebar, click Privacy and security → Site settings.
- Click JavaScript.
- Ensure the toggle for "Allowed" is turned ON.
- Go back to Usystems and try printing again.
On Firefox:
- In the address bar, type
about:configand press Enter. - Click Accept the Risk and Continue if prompted.
- Search for
javascript.enabled. - If the value shows
false, click the toggle to set it totrue. - Go back to Usystems and try printing again.
On Safari (Mac):
- In the menu bar, click Safari → Settings.
- Go to the Security tab.
- Ensure Enable JavaScript is checked.
- Go back to Usystems and try printing again.
Reset print dialog defaults:
- Open the browser's print dialog (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P).
- In the print preview, click the More settings or Options button.
- Verify these settings:
- Margins = Normal or Default
- Scale = 100%
- Paper size = A4 or Letter (based on your region)
- Orientation = Portrait (unless the document is wide)
- Click Print to send the job to your printer.
Fix 3: Check your printer connection and status
-
Verify the printer is on and connected:
- Confirm the printer is powered on and shows a "ready" or green light.
- If using a network printer, check that it is connected to your WiFi or local network.
- Wired printers should be connected via USB and detected by your device.
-
Test the printer with another application:
- Open a simple document (e.g., a word processor or PDF) and try to print.
- This confirms whether the printer works outside of Usystems.
-
Restart your printer:
- Power off the printer completely (wait 30 seconds).
- Power it back on and wait for it to fully initialize (typically 1–2 minutes).
- Try printing again from Usystems.
-
Check print queue (Windows):
- Right-click the printer icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner).
- Select See what's printing.
- If stuck print jobs are listed, click each one and select Cancel to clear the queue.
- Restart the Print Spooler service:
- Press
Win+R, typeservices.msc, and press Enter. - Find Print Spooler in the list.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
- Press
-
Check printer queue (Mac):
- Go to System Preferences → Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer.
- Click the Delete button next to any stuck jobs.
- Try printing again.
-
Reinstall or update printer drivers (if on Windows):
- Visit your printer manufacturer's website (e.g., HP, Canon, Xerox).
- Download the latest driver for your printer model and operating system.
- Install the driver and restart your computer.
- Try printing again.
Fix 4: Clear browser cache and reload the page
A corrupted cache can prevent the print dialog from loading correctly.
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Delete(Windows) orCmd+Shift+Delete(Mac) to open the browser's cache-clear dialog. - Select All time from the time range dropdown.
- Check Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
- Click Clear data.
- Go back to Usystems and reload the page (press
Ctrl+RorCmd+R). - Open the document you want to print and try again.
Fix 5: Try a different browser or export as PDF
If printing still fails:
-
Try a different browser:
- Download and install another browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge).
- Log into Usystems in the new browser.
- Open the same document and try to print.
- If it works in the other browser, the issue is browser-specific.
-
Export the document as a PDF:
- In the print dialog (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P), change the Destination from your printer to Save as PDF.
- Click Save and choose a location on your computer.
- Open the PDF in Adobe Reader or your PDF viewer.
- Print from the PDF viewer using your printer.
Fix 6: Contact your administrator or support
If none of the above steps work:
-
Contact your Usystems administrator with the following details:
- Which document type you tried to print (invoice, receipt, bill, etc.).
- The error message (if any) you saw.
- Which browser and operating system you are using.
- Whether printing works outside of Usystems (e.g., in Word or a PDF viewer).
-
If you have a support agreement, contact Usystems support with the above information. They can:
- Verify the print template configuration.
- Check server logs for errors.
- Provide a replacement template if the current one is corrupted.
When to contact support
Contact Usystems support if:
- No print template exists for your document type and your administrator cannot restore it.
- The print preview shows content, but the printer does not output anything.
- You see a server error or exception message when attempting to print.
- Printing works in one browser but not others, and clearing cache did not help.
- The exported PDF shows correct formatting, but your physical printer produces a blank page.
