Configuring printers in the print agent

Add and configure printers to the print agent so they are available for printing from Usystems.

Jul 11, 2026

After the print agent is installed, you must add and configure the printers you want to use. Printers can be local (connected directly to the machine running the print agent) or network-based (accessible via IP address or network name).

Before you start

  • The print agent must be installed and running on your network machine
  • You need admin access to the print agent console or configuration interface
  • Have the network name or IP address of any network printers you want to add
  • Ensure all printers are powered on and connected to the network
  • You should have basic printer details (model, driver availability) on hand

Steps

  1. Open the print agent console or configuration application on the machine where the print agent is running.

  2. Navigate to the printer configuration section (often labeled "Printers," "Devices," or "Peripherals").

  3. To add a local printer (connected directly to the machine):

    • Click Add Printer or Add Device
    • The system should auto-detect printers connected to this machine
    • Select the printer from the list and click Add
  4. To add a network printer:

    • Click Add Printer or Add Device
    • Choose the option for Network Printer or IP Address
    • Enter the printer's IP address or network name (hostname)
    • Click Connect or Discover
    • Select the printer when it appears and click Add
  5. For each added printer, you may be prompted to:

    • Select or install the printer driver (follow the driver wizard if needed)
    • Give the printer a friendly name (e.g., "Reception Desk Printer" or "Warehouse Label Printer")
    • Set any printer-specific options (page size, color mode, etc.)
  6. Once configured, the printer should appear in your printer list with a status of "Ready" or "Connected."

  7. Return to Usystems. Navigate to Settings → Print Templates. Your configured printers should now appear in the printer dropdown when you print a document.

  8. Test the configuration by printing a test document from Usystems to verify the printer receives the job correctly.

Accounting impact

Configuring printers is a technical setup task with no direct accounting impact.

Tips & common mistakes

  • Use clear, descriptive names for each printer so users can easily identify which one to use (e.g., "Pharmacy Receipts" instead of "Printer1").
  • If a network printer is not discovered, verify its IP address by checking the printer's display panel or your network settings.
  • Some printers require specific drivers. If a printer is not recognized, check the printer manufacturer's website for the correct driver for your operating system.
  • If a printer shows as "Offline" or "Not Ready," verify it is powered on, connected to the network, and has paper and toner.
  • Changes to printer configuration may take a few minutes to appear in Usystems. Refresh the Usystems page if printers do not appear immediately.
