Installing the print agent
Set up the print agent software on your company network machine to enable printing from Usystems.
The print agent is a lightweight service that runs on a network-accessible machine in your company and acts as a bridge between Usystems and your physical printers. It must be installed and running for any printing to work.
Before you start
- You need admin access to the machine where the print agent will run
- The machine must have network connectivity to both your Usystems server and your printers
- You must have download rights to install software on this machine
- Identify which printers you will connect to the print agent (obtain their network names or IP addresses)
Steps
-
Download the print agent installer for your operating system from the Usystems admin portal. Navigate to Settings → Print Templates to find the download link. Open in Usystems
-
On your network machine, run the installer by double-clicking the downloaded file.
-
Follow the on-screen installation wizard:
- Accept the license agreement
- Choose an installation directory (default is typically recommended)
- Select whether to auto-start the print agent when the machine boots (recommended)
-
Complete the installation. The print agent service should start automatically.
-
To verify the installation was successful, check that:
- The print agent appears in your system's running services or application menu
- You see no error messages in the installer log
-
Return to Usystems. Navigate to Settings → Print Templates and verify that the print agent shows as "Connected" or "Online" in your print agent list.
-
If the agent shows as offline, check your network connection and review the print agent logs on your machine for any errors (see "Troubleshooting" if needed).
Accounting impact
The print agent is a technical service and has no direct accounting impact. However, its presence is required for any printing functionality within Usystems.
Tips & common mistakes
- The print agent service must be running at all times for printing to work. If the machine is shut down or the service is stopped, no printing will occur until it is restarted.
- If installing on a shared server machine, ensure no other users have running jobs that might be interrupted by a restart.
- Some network environments require firewall rules to allow the print agent to communicate with Usystems. If connection fails after installation, ask your IT team to verify firewall settings.
- Keep the print agent software updated. Check for updates in Settings → Print Templates periodically.
