Printing queue tickets

Print a physical token ticket to give to a waiting patient.

Jul 11, 2026

Some facilities print physical queue tickets so patients can hold a paper with their token number. This is useful when you do not have a digital display or when patients prefer a printed record. A queue ticket typically shows the patient's token number, queue name, and arrival time.

Before you start

  • A token must have been issued to the patient
  • A printer must be connected and configured to your system
  • Your queue must be set up with a print template or default print layout

Steps

  1. After issuing a token (see "Issuing a token to a patient"), look for a Print icon, Print Ticket button, or similar option on the token record. Open in Usystems

  2. Click the print button. A print preview or dialog may appear showing what the ticket will look like.

  3. Check the preview to ensure the ticket shows:

    • The patient's token number
    • The queue name or department
    • Optionally, arrival time or appointment time
    • Any other information your facility wishes to display
  4. If the preview looks correct, click Confirm Print or Print to send the ticket to your printer.

  5. The printer will produce a physical ticket. Tear it off and give it to the patient.

  6. The patient now has a printed record of their token number. They can show it if asked for their place in the queue.

Accounting impact

Printing does not affect any financial transactions or accounts. It is purely an operational aid for patient flow management.

Tips & common mistakes

  • Test the print layout after setting up a new queue to ensure the ticket is readable and fits your printer (page size, margins)
  • If the printer is offline or out of paper, the print action will fail; you can still serve the patient verbally by telling them their token number
  • Duplicate or reprint a ticket if the first copy was damaged or unclear; there is no limit to how many times you can print the same token
  • If your facility uses global tokens (one token across departments), the printed ticket will still show the correct token number and current department
  • Some facilities customize the print template to show additional information such as expected wait time or facility logo. Contact your admin if you want to modify the ticket layout
