Printing & Document Templates

Template Studio overview

Understand how Template Studio lets you design custom invoices, receipts, and reports.

Template Studio is Usystems' built-in tool for designing the documents your organization prints and distributes to customers, vendors, and staff. Instead of using external design software, you create and customize templates directly in your Usystems account using HTML and Handlebars—a simple templating language.

When you print or generate a document (an invoice, sales receipt, purchase order, or any supported report), Usystems uses your template to format the data and create the final output. This means you can add your company logo, change fonts and colors, reorganize fields, and include custom text without needing a designer or technical expertise.

Why templates matter:

  • Branding: Your documents look professional and consistent with your company colors, logo, and format.
  • Localization: Create templates in English, Dari, Pashto, or any language your business serves.
  • Compliance: Add tax registration numbers, business licenses, or legal disclaimers to match your country's requirements.
  • Efficiency: Print only the fields you need, reducing paper and helping customers focus on what matters.

How it works in Usystems:

Each template corresponds to one document type (invoices, sales receipts, bills, prescription labels, queue tickets, or diagnostic reports). When you navigate to Settings → Print Templates Open in Usystems, you see the list of templates your organization can customize. Click any template to enter Template Studio, where you write or edit the HTML and Handlebars code that shapes the output.

Usystems provides default templates for every document type, so you can start printing immediately. If you want to customize a template, you edit it in the studio. If you make a mistake, you can restore the original version at any time.

What you need to know:

  • Templates use HTML (the language of web pages) for layout and styling, plus Handlebars (a simple syntax like {{variable_name}}) to insert document data like invoice number, customer name, or total amount.
  • You do not need to write HTML from scratch. The default templates are already written and working; you edit them by adding or removing sections, changing text, or adjusting colors.
  • Every time you print a document, Usystems automatically fills in the variable data (customer details, line items, totals) and renders it according to your template.
  • Some document types require specific dimensions: invoices are A4 (standard paper), receipts are 80mm (thermal printer), prescriptions are A5 (half-page).

Next steps:

Start by exploring the template types and their uses, then learn how to edit a template or restore a default. If you want to add dynamic content like barcodes or translated text, see the variables and helpers reference.
