Kits: exploding into component lines

A kit automatically breaks down into its components when you sell it.

What is a Kit?

A kit is a group product that automatically breaks down into its individual components when you create a sales or purchase document. Instead of appearing as one line item, the kit expands into separate lines—one for each component part.

Why Kits Matter

Kits let you sell finished assemblies while tracking inventory at the component level. This is essential for:

  • Accurate inventory: You reduce the kit from your warehouse, and the system automatically reduces each component. Your stock counts stay correct even though customers bought one item.
  • Cost tracking: The system combines component costs to calculate the true cost of the assembled product.
  • Supply chain clarity: You can see exactly which parts go into each kit, making it easy to spot shortages or plan production.

How Kits Work in Usystems

  1. You create a group product marked as a kit and define its components and quantities.
  2. When you add the kit to an invoice, sales order, purchase order, or bill, Usystems instantly replaces it with one line per component—keeping the quantities proportional.
  3. Inventory and accounting reflect the actual parts, not the kit as a whole.
  4. The document shows the kit name at the top so the customer or vendor understands what they bought.

Kits vs. Bundles

A bundle works the opposite way: you sell individual components as a single line, without expanding them. Choose a kit when you need component-level tracking and a bundle when you want to simplify the sales experience.
