Global tokens: one token across departments
Understand how a single token number can work across multiple queues or departments.
What it is
A global token is a single queue-number sequence that is shared across multiple queues or departments. When global tokens are enabled, a patient receives one token number that they can use to check in or wait across any queue assigned to the global group—rather than receiving a separate token for each department.
Why it matters
- Single patient journey: Instead of a patient receiving "Token 42 – Lab" and then "Token 15 – Registration", they get one number for their entire visit
- Reduces confusion: Patients and front-desk staff do not have to track multiple token numbers
- Flexible routing: A patient can move between departments without losing their place in the system
How it works in Usystems
When you create or edit a queue, you can check a Global or Global tokens option. All queues with that setting enabled share the same token-numbering sequence. When a patient is issued a token from any of those queues, the system increments the shared counter.
If you have three queues (Emergency, Triage, Doctor) all set to global, and a patient is called to queue number 50, that same number 50 can be used to identify them across all three queues.
Non-global queues maintain their own separate counter, so if Emergency queue issues tokens 1–100, and Triage queue also issues tokens 1–100, they do not conflict.
Where you see it
- When creating or editing a queue (Settings → Queues), the Global checkbox controls whether this queue uses shared or queue-specific numbering
- On the queue display or ticket, the token number will be the same whether called from Emergency, Triage, or Doctor
- In the patient view, a single token number appears if they are in a global system; multiple tokens appear if queues are non-global
