Audio & sounds settings
The Audio & sounds tab controls when Usystems plays notification sounds, alerts, and other audio feedback. This is useful for busy environments like clinics, pharmacies, and retail—you can turn sounds on for important alerts while keeping the interface quiet.
Fields explained
| Field | Purpose | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Enable notification sounds | Master toggle for all audio in the system | On/Off |
| Alert sound | Sound played when errors, warnings, or critical messages appear | Ding, Chime, Buzzer |
| Success sound | Sound for successful actions (document saved, payment received) | Ping, Bell |
| Queue notification sound | Sound when a patient/customer queue token is called | Chime, Beep |
| Message sound | Sound when a new message arrives | Notification, Alert |
| Volume level | Master volume (0–100%) | 75% |
| Mute during business hours | Option to automatically silence sounds during specified times | Off |
| Mute on phone call | If enabled, sounds are silenced when a phone call is active | On/Off |
| Accessibility: text-to-speech | Read aloud notifications and alerts for users with visual impairment | On/Off |
| Test sound | Button to preview the currently selected alert sound | (Click to hear) |
What this controls
- Work environment awareness — you can enable sounds in a quiet office but disable them in a busy clinic.
- Accessibility — text-to-speech can read alert messages aloud for users with low vision.
- Distraction management — muting sounds during certain hours reduces interruption during consultations or focused work.
- Phone integration — auto-muting during calls prevents double-beeping and confusion.
- User attention — different sounds for different event types (alert vs. success) help you react appropriately.
Tips
- Test sounds before relying on them — click the "Test" button to hear your alert sound in your environment.
- For healthcare environments, consider keeping queue alerts on so you don't miss patient calls.
- For pharmacies, success sounds help confirm prescription fills and cash receipts.
- For nightshift workers, disable sounds or use text-to-speech to avoid disturbing others.
- Volume level is personal — each user can set their own.
To access these settings, go to Settings → Audio & Sounds Open in Usystems.
