Printing product barcodes and labels
Print barcode labels for your products so they can be scanned in the system.
Printing Product Barcodes and Labels
Printing barcode labels for your products makes it easy to identify and track inventory with a barcode scanner. Usystems generates barcodes automatically for each product based on its code or SKU.
Before you start
- Permission required: You must have permission to manage products and print settings.
- Label printer: You need a label printer (thermal or inkjet) that supports the label format you want to use.
- Label stock: Have appropriate label stock on hand (size and format matching your printer and needs).
- Product setup: Products must be created in Usystems with a valid product code or SKU. The barcode is generated from this code.
- Print template: Your system may use a default print template for labels, or you can create a custom one.
Steps
-
Go to the Products list to find the product(s) you want to print barcodes for. Products → All Products Open in Usystems
-
Search or filter to locate the product(s) by name, code, or category.
- If you need to print barcodes for multiple products, you can select them from the list (if bulk-print is available).
-
Open the product detail page or select the product(s) to print.
- Click on the product name to open its detail page, or select checkboxes if printing multiple items at once.
-
Look for a print or export option on the product page or toolbar.
- Choose the option to print labels, barcode labels, or a barcode report.
- If you don't see a print button, check the menu or action buttons on the page.
-
Select your label format and printer settings.
- Choose the label size and layout (e.g., standard label, small sticker).
- Confirm the printer and paper type.
- Adjust quantity if printing multiple copies of the same barcode.
-
Preview the labels (if an option is available) before sending to the printer.
- Make sure the barcode is clear, the text is readable, and the layout fits on your labels.
-
Send to printer and collect the printed labels.
- Place the labels on your products. Ensure barcodes are flat and visible for scanning.
Tips & common mistakes
- Barcode won't scan? Check that the label is not wrinkled, faded, or placed at an angle that obscures the barcode. Print a new label if the barcode is unclear.
- Text is too small or cut off? Adjust the label template or printer settings to increase font size or margins. You may need to use a larger label format.
- Printing to the wrong printer? Before printing, double-check the selected printer in the print dialog. If you don't see your printer, ensure it is connected and set as the default.
- Bulk printing: If you manage many products, you can often print barcodes in bulk by selecting multiple products at once or using a batch print template. This saves time and ensures consistency.
